Dear Members and Friends of the Yale Political Union,

Thank you to all who joined us last Tuesday as we debated Resolved: Meritocracy Has No Merit with Professor Daniel Markovits. By a vote of 26-31-2, themotion failed

Thank you, also, to the valiant Union members who braved the snow this Saturday to compete in the YPU Scavenger Hunt. I am pleased to announce that the Feds and Tories tied for First Place in the Scavenger Hunt. Both Parties will receive $100 from the YPU Treasury.

On Tuesday, February 28th at 7:30pm, the Yale Political Union will host G. William Hoagland to debate “Resolved: Balance the Budget in Sudler Hall (WLH 201). Reach out to the Speaker (Anna Martinelli-Parker), the Floor Leader of the Right (Daniel Hannell), or the Floor Leader of the Left (AJ Tapia-Wylie) if you are interested in speaking on the docket.

G. William Hoagland is a Senior Vice President at the Bipartisan Policy Center, where he supervises their fiscal, health, and economic policy analyses. He was a US Senate staff member for 25 years and served as the director of budget and appropriations in the office of Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, where he assisted in evaluating the fiscal impact of major legislation and helped to coordinate budget policy for the Senate leadership.

Prior to Tuesday’s debate, the Union will host a dinner with Mr. Hoagland for a small group of students. Please fill out this form to indicate your interest in attending by 5pm on Monday.

This Saturday, March 4th, at 7pm, the Yale Political Union Women’s Caucuswill convene in HQ 113 for a Wine and Cheese night. Please sign up on this form so we have an estimated attendance for refreshments.
